Children Sleep Problems

Children sleep problems and sleep disorders in children

Children sleep problems can be a nightmare for both the kids and parents. Both parties suffer. When there is sleeping problems in children, these kids would be emotionally vulnerable, they sometimes become ill-tempered, muzzy and more often than not their immunity to common diseases head southwards. I have heard of cases where children sleeping problems lead to obesity! In the case of the parents, sleep deprivation would lead to mental fatigue and they then start having memory and concentration malfunctionings too.

But having children sleep problems is not an entirely hopeless situation because the majority of them (including apnea) are known to doctors and they know how to treat these disorders. The most common solution is simply to reschedule the children’s sleeping hours. But make sure you give the schedule some flexibility because an inflexible one can lead to unforeseen health problems later on in life.

There used to be a time when a child would have no problems falling asleep at night because there were limited distractions. After having a field time playing outside without any worries at all, they would be dead tired at night. But things are different now, no thanks to television and advances made in online technologies. Every kid nowadays seems to have some electronic gadget in their hands, ranging from cell phones to PSPs and online games. Then there’s the social media to chit chat with their friends throughout the world. There’s simply so much distractions that there is no wonder kids nowadays have a sleeping disorder.

Did you know that prolonged exposure to the intense lights from television sets and the computer monitor screens are interpreted by our brain as daylight? Well, researchers found that these lights impede the production of melatonin (sleep hormone), thereby causing sleeping difficulties.

If there is children sleeping problems in your house, go and see a doctor. If you are not prepared to do that at this juncture, then these are what you can do. Firstly, remove all online technologies from his bedroom. Secondly, tell them straight in the face that they need to limit their times going online or playing electronic games. Thirdly, educate your kids about the importance of having enough sleep. The last tip to solve children sleep problems is to make it a practice to give them a warm bath before they head to bed.
